The town of Mora, proud owner of some of Spain's richest olive groves, dedicates the last weekend in April to its Fiesta de Olivo (Olive Festival).
During the first day there are competitions and games, olive markets and tastings and the fiesta takes on a carnival atmosphere, with the crowning of the festival queen and the lighting of an olive branch.
On the second day a mass is celebrated and the fruits of the olive tree are blessed. The festival queen is welcomed during a parade of decorated carriages and horses, which is followed by bull running in the evening. If you disagree with this activity, then there is plenty of live music and folk dancing to keep you entertained instead.
The last day is dedicated to both local and Andalusian music and dance. There is even an olive stone-throwing competition and, in the usual Spanish style, the parties continue late into the night.
